    About

Barnard Castle Life. This site has been built to allow visitors from around the world to discover and experience in a small way some of the rich history and heritage that the town of Barnard Castle enjoys.

Barnard Castle is a market town that has a unique character it is situated in the North East of England in County Durham known as the land of the Prince Bishops.

We lie roughly 25 miles south of Durham, 50 miles from the Lake District, 16 miles from Darlington and 15 miles from Bishop Auckalnd both being our nearest town neighbours.

We are ideally situated on the route from East to west and are a stepping stone into the Pennines, we can be reached from all directions. point yourself at the A1, A688 or A66 and you will find us.

I hope to show some of the finer points, tourist areas, areas of interests, places to visit and perhaps some of the lesser known places in the town. Where possible I will also add a little local history, pictures, maps and information hopefully to show why Barnard Castle is one of the friendliest and safest places in Britain to visit.
